“What’s the purpose of life?” It’s an age-old question that’s plagued humankind for years. I’m no exception. Fortunately, I didn’t have to spend years upon years trying to figure out my purpose. My parents exposed me to the Gospel of Jesus Christ from a young age, and I quickly learned that worshiping Jesus and being his example was my purpose. I was okay with that. What I wasn’t okay with was telling others about the Jesus I believed in!
Fast-forward a few decades, and I can now say it’s gotten easier over time. The operative word here is easier. Not easy. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Sharing scripture can be a joy. It can be easy. And considering Jesus Christ issued the Great Commission — to share the story of his death, burial, resurrection, and saving power with the world — it should be a priority for every one of his followers.
Let’s dive into why sharing scripture doesn’t have to be hard and how to make it fun.
Why Sharing Scripture Doesn’t Have to Be Hard
Research shows nearly 80% of unchurched people say they’re okay with their Christian friends discussing their beliefs with them. However, not even 30% say Christians have spoken with them about how to follow Christ. Christians need to grow in this area. That includes me.
Common reasons for not wanting to share the Gospel include the fear of losing personal relationships or not having enough biblical knowledge. Some Christians don’t evangelize because they don’t feel the burden of reaching the unsaved. Others fear being ridiculed for their faith.
My biggest hangup for years was worrying about how others would view me for sharing my faith. Would they laugh at me? Would they criticize me for being too passionate? I also worried about whether I could clearly explain the path to salvation. I allowed my mind to block what my heart wanted to do: point others to Jesus. I over-complicated the process.
I realized over time that sharing scripture was as easy as building relationships with others and sharing with them how much Jesus had shown his love toward them and me. I could then talk about how God had met my tangible needs (e.g., food, shelter, friends, family), provided me with a purpose and identity (being a child of God), and given me hope beyond this world (hope of heaven). This is the perfect opportunity to tell others they can experience this same sense of purpose and peace by allowing Jesus into their hearts, too.
It’s that easy. Speak from your heart, and other people will connect with the Gospel message.
How to Make Sharing Scripture Fun
Sharing your faith can be a fun, personable way to share scripture. It gives you a chance to talk about an important person to you: Jesus Christ. It also allows you to talk about yourself, which activates the part of your brain that releases the feel-good chemical dopamine. This chemical is also released when you eat delicious meals or have intercourse.
Testimony sharing isn’t the only way to make sharing the Gospel fun, though. I love wearing faith-based clothing and accessories like religious pendants. This is a simple and stylish way to show others how significant Jesus is to me. We don’t always have to say something verbally to be a light for Christ. These items can also be excellent conversation starters with strangers and unchurched friends.
Share God’s Word With Confidence Today
Sharing scripture is an excellent way to share with others the hope you have in Jesus and encourage them to become a disciple of Jesus, too. While it might be intimidating at first, it gets easier as we grow our ‘evangelism muscles.’ Together, we can help build God’s Kingdom one intentional interaction or conversation at a time.
