Ever since I returned to the church in my twenties, I have been inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary.

A Gift of the Magi: Stealth Christian Formation

January 6, 2019 By Betsey Monnot 1 Comment

“We three kings of Orient are, bearing gifts, we travel so far. (sic)” The little voice sings from the back of the car. My son, strapped into his carseat, is singing one of his favorite songs.

Celebrating the Lesser Feast of Saint Martin with a Lantern Walk

November 11, 2018 By Betsey Monnot Leave a Comment

The church celebrates St. Martin of Tours today, November 11th. Martin is best known for cutting his cloak in half with his sword to share with a beggar. Afterward, he had a vision of Christ, wrapped in the half cloak. It’s a pretty simple story, which is one of the reasons it works so well for young children. My children attend a Waldorf school, and celebrating St. Martin has been a beloved tradition for us since the oldest was in preschool.

I took a deep breath, and started praying Compline with my family.

March 28, 2017 By Betsey Monnot 4 Comments

I made a handout to teach my parish the practice of Compline. I wasn’t sure quite what would happen when I took five home.
