When the Basics are Hard

April 3, 2019 By Sarah Kinney Gaventa 3 Comments

I’ve been attending yoga classes at my local studio for about a year. I’m into yoga for the stretching and centering, so when Zoe announced that the theme of the Wednesday class was going to be hard work, I immediately got nervous.

Low Clearance

March 27, 2019 By Miriam McKenney 1 Comment

In the fall of 2017, I learned about the American Heart Association’s Heart Mini. The race featured a half marathon, a 15K, 5K race, and 5K walk. I thought to myself, hmmm…. 15K… that seems like a big goal, but doable.

Roman Rewards

March 5, 2019 By Emily Watkins 1 Comment

In my day job I teach bible stories to 250 kids every week and after I tell a story to each group of twenty students we wonder about it together. I am continually amazed at how deep my students are willing to delve and what amazing insights they have to offer.

Teaching the Lord’s Prayer

February 7, 2019 By Jerusalem Jackson Greer 2 Comments

A while ago I was looking for a gift to give at church for children’s baptisms or to new parents, when I stumbled upon these jumbo prayer beads, perfect for little hands. Wanting to connect the beads to a practice of prayer, I devised a little method of traveling the beads while praying The Lord’s Prayer, connecting each bead to a portion of the prayer, in the hopes that this tactile practice would help the children both memorize and internalize the prayer that Christ taught us all to pray.

The Brilliant Theology of the Desert Mothers

January 5, 2019 By Sara Irwin 7 Comments

In terms of my life circumstances, I couldn’t possibly have less in common with the ammas who fled to the desert for spiritual growth and exploration. I have a marriage, a parish, and two kids. And a dog. And chickens (maybe they had chickens in the desert?).
